Q: What is a Raw Candle?

A: Raw is a philosophy. Candles are what I make. Raw is handmade with pride in U.S.A. Raw is using the highest quality clean burning waxes and body safe color. Raw is the use of pure essential oils, and essences for a natural fragrance that doesn’t aggravate allergies. Raw is having lead-free, 100% cotton wicks so we can breathe easy. Raw is beautiful illumination. Raw is blending my own fragrances, sometimes taking over two years to produce. Raw is pouring everything I’ve got into making the best candle you’ve ever smelled. Q: Are Raw Candles Soy?

A: Raw Candles are made with a (FDA) Food and Drug Administration approved food grade Japanese Paraffin. There are hundreds of different paraffin, natural, and gel waxes on the market today. I specifically chose this wax for its clean burning properties, ability to mottle (or crystallize), and high fragrance yield. We are working on adding soy candles into the Raw Candles family.

Q: What do you put in Raw Candles?

A: I only use my clean burning wax, body safe color, 100% cotton wick, and pure essential oils, and essences. And lots of love – a very important element!

Q: How do you get Raw Candles to look that way?

A: My candles are visually stunning. Like snowflakes, there are no two candles exactly alike! Each candle has a completely unique feel to it. Essential Oil content, premium color, and temperature control are the key elements in having a beautiful and artistic look for Raw Candles. Different oils create larger or smaller crystals as the candle cools. The temperature I pour the candle will determine how far the crystals spread out and the color of the candle. Soy wax and beeswax inhibit this special crystallization process.

Q: What makes Raw Candles different than soy candles?

A: My candles are cleaner burning because I use 100% cotton wicks and essential oils in my fragrances. Also, the paraffin I use is refined more times than ‘cheaper’ wax and burns much cleaner than regular candles. Soy candles are opaque, and plain-looking. Raw Candles are smooth and shiny, with vivid colors and a unique, mottled texture. Raw Candles are gorgeous, visually stunning, upright pillars. Soy candles burn at a lower melting point, which makes them vulnerable to melting during the warmer months. Raw Candle pillars will keep their shape even in hot weather. A soy pillar candle will have a tendency to drip and create a big mess, whereas Raw Candles will hold their shape, burn evenly and don’t drip. Our candles feature a more prominent, elegant fragrance throw than soy candles. Raw Candles last much longer than soy candles made with the same amount of wax. Finally, Raw Candles differ from soy candles because more people have allergic reactions to soy based products than paraffin products

Q: How do I prolong the life of my Raw Candles?

A: Your Raw Candles will last longer if you follow these simple tips:

- Always burn candles on a flat, even surface.
- Keep the wicks trimmed to ¼ of an inch. You can find wick trimmers on our accessories page.
- Allow the pool of liquefied wax to reach the outer edge of the rim every time you burn your candles
- Use a wick dipper to safely keep your wick centered in an upright position while your candles are lit.
- If you notice the pool of wax is more prominent on one side of the candle, then simply give the candle a 180 degree rotation in the opposite direction of the wax pool.
- Always burn votives in a tight, form-fitting container.

Q: How do you come up with these fragrances?

A: I base my fragrance creations on years of studying essential oils and essences. I prefer to use unique, pure-grade essential oils as opposed to low end synthetic fragrances used by most major candle manufacturers. I have to believe that the fragrance is true to nature. I experiment with the oils to determine which scents work best together. I typically test a fragrance for a year (sometimes longer) before it becomes the final product.
